Proposing a city suspended magically in the air, a real Ville Spatiale in which citizens could choose how to live,
placed the architect and theoretician Yona Friedman in a more than influential position in the turbulent architectural
debate of the sixties. In an inconsistent world in which consumption, as a powerful new engine of the
economy, came together with a post-war time of social austerity, where the weight of politics in architecture began
to announce the transformative aspirations emerging in France in May 68 and North American hippie movement,
the figure of Friedman was premonitory and extremely attractive.
