Arte o trampa.

Abstract

De la definición de la palabra ‘arte’ en el diccionario de la Real Academia Española obtenemos que ésta es sinónimo de ‘trampa’. El texto pretende formalizar el tiempo de la ceremonia del toreo, extendiendo trampas como un cazador en un bosque aparentemente vacío. El sistema empleado tiene tres partes, obtenidas del libro sobre Marcel Duchamp La Apariencia Desnuda, escrito por Octavio Paz: la Erótica, la Metaironía y la Metafísica. Con la Erótica conseguiríamos captar la formalización espacial del lugar, el círculo como figura primitiva y sagrada. Con la Metaironía, nos apartamos del tiempo, y conseguimos observar con simultaneidad lo que ocurre en dos lugares diferentes. Por un lado, una faena de José Tomás; por otro, una performance de Joseph Beuys. La Metafísica paraliza el momento, vive en un tiempo parado e infinito, representado aquí por la imagen de Manolete, abandonado, mirando al tendido mientras pasa el toro; una fotografía dedicada a Jorge de Oteiza con todo mi afecto.

The Royal Spanish Academy dictionary defines the word ‘art’ as a synonym for ‘trap’. This text intends to interpret the time used in a bullfight as a form, where traps are deployed like a hunter’s in an ostensibly empty forest. The system employed uses three concepts borrowed from Octavio Paz’s book Appearance Stripped Bare on the work of Marcel Duchamp: the Erotic, the Meta-ironic and the Metaphysical. With the Erotic we can formally capture the spatial nature of the place; the circle is a primitive figure and sacred place. The Meta-ironic stills time and allows us to simultaneously observe the action occurring in two different places: on the one hand José Tomas’ bullfight, and on the other Joseph Beuys’ performance. The Metaphysical stops time, an endless stasis, represented by the image of Manolete, abandoned to his fate, looking to the grandstand while the bull charges by; a photograph dedicated to Jorge de Oteiza with fondest regards.
