Colour, Victory and Destruction: Blood in the Biblical Apocalypse (the Book of Revelation)

Abstract

The Book of Revelation, although it carries the same symbolism for blood that we find elsewhere in the Bible, examines this more deeply, recasting it with fresh nuances and giving it a unique stamp in continuity with the message of Jesus contained in the New Testament. In this way, colour and meaning become fused together, with blood referring to symbol and colour to theology. It can therefore be affirmed that the Book of Revelation is not only a chromatic story, but a chromatic revelation in which blood plays a vital role.

El Libro de Apocalipsis, aunque lleva el mismo simbolismo para sangre que encontramos en otras partes de la Biblia, examina esto más profundamente, reformulándolo con nuevos matices y dándole un sello único en continuidad con el mensaje de Jesús contenido en el Nuevo Testamento. De esta manera, el color y el significado se fusionan, y la sangre se refiere al símbolo y el color a la teología. Por lo tanto, se puede afirmar que el Libro de Apocalipsis no es solo una historia cromática, sino una revelación cromática en la que la sangre juega un papel vital.
