Arquitectos de emergencia: mapa histórico del siglo XX

Abstract

Los orígenes históricos de la solución arquitectónica para viviendas de emergencia, tal y como se las conoce en la actualidad, no han sido estudiados en profundidad conforme a las influencias recibidas ni su cronología. Al mismo tiempo, el desarrollo y la complejidad creciente del fenómeno conocido como ‘acción humanitaria’, obliga a investigar la presencia paralela de los distintos modelos constructivos que resuelven la urgencia social ante la aparición de cualquier clase de conflicto. El siglo XX, sin duda, es el marco histórico donde hay que buscar el grado de influencia y puntos de encuentro entre el avance material de la arquitectura y la cooperación al desarrollo como fenómeno reciente de las sociedades modernas. Existe una coincidencia de valores entre las características funcionales y tipológicas de las viviendas de emergencia y los logros alcanzados por la Arquitectura Moderna, a lo largo del siglo XX. Ponerlos de manifiesto es el objetivo de la presentación del trabajo, junto a un cuadro resumen final en el que se cruzan los hitos históricos de la acción humanitaria y los arquitectos que trabajaron a favor de la ayuda de emergencia.

The historical origins of architectural solutions for emergency housing as they are known today, have not been studied in depth in their chronology and their influences received. Simultaneously, the development and the increasing complexity of the phenomenon known as ‘humanitarian action’ requires research in the co-existence of different construction models that solve the social urgency in any kind of conflict. The twentieth century is undoubtedly the historical context were we must seek the degree of influence and similarities between the advancement in architectural technology and the development of cooperation as a recent phenomenon in modern societies. There is a coincidence in values between the functional and typological characteristics of the emergency housing and the achievements of modern architecture throughout the twentieth century. The following paper, with a final summary table, makes evident the above: to cross the historical landmarks of Humanitarian Action and the architects who worked in favor of the emergency relief.
