Los científicos como actores y fuentes en el discurso mediático sobre la energía nuclear : análisis del tratamiento informativo en la prensa español

Abstract

El discurso de los medios sobre la energía nuclear es esencial para entender la formación de la opinión pública en un asunto altamente científico-técnico. Esta investigación analiza el papel de los científicos como actores en el debate nuclear a través de su presencia como fuente periodística. Las unidades de análisis han resultado 234 textos publicados tres meses antes y tres después del accidente nuclear en Japón en los diarios españoles El País y ABC. Los resultados demuestran que los científicos como actores principales quedan relegados frente a políticos, ciudadanos, industria y ecologistas. Sin embargo, su protagonismo determina el encuadre noticioso: acentúa claramente el riesgo ambiental y minimiza el beneficio económico, todo lo contrario que en el caso de los políticos. The media discourse on nuclear power is essential for understanding how public opinion is formed on such a highly technical-scientific issue. This research focuses on analysing the role of scientists as claimants in the debate on nuclear power, through their presence in the press as a source of information. Following analysis, a total of 234 articles have been published in the Spanish newspapers El País and ABC during the three months prior to and the three months following the nuclear accident in Japan. The results indicate that scientists, as actors claimants, are relegated behind politicians, citizens, industry and ecologists. However, their prominence is decisive in the news setting: clearly emphasising the environmental risk and downplaying the financial benefit, as opposed to the case of the politicians.
