El Belt and Road Initiative y la Estrategia Europea de Conectividad: ¿compatibles o irreconciliables?

Abstract

Existe abundante literatura (científica y divulgativa) sobre el Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) y parece que el proyecto chino de infraestructuras lanzado en 2013 choca frontalmente en algunos de sus puntos con la Estrategia Europea de Conectividad de 2018, principalmente por la sospecha de que, tras las rutas, se esconde la «trampa de la deuda», lo que cambiaría sensiblemente las reglas de juego de las relaciones entre países. No obstante, también cabe señalar que existen una serie de elementos compartidos donde UE y China pueden cooperar para fortalecer los lazos de todo tipo entre Europa y Asia.

There is abundant literature (scientific and informative) on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and it seems that the Chinese infrastructure project launched in 2013 clashes head-on in some points with the European Connectivity Strategy (2018), mainly due to the suspicion that the ‘debt trap’ lies behind the routes, which would significantly change the rules of the game in relations between countries. However, it should also be pointed out that there are a number of shared elements where the EU and China can cooperate to strengthen ties of all kinds between Europe and Asia
