Las virtudes personales del docente en el contexto educativo actual

Abstract

El profesor es un elemento fundamental en todo el proceso educativo. En el actual contexto de desorientación pedagógica por la abrumadora presencia de innovaciones, conviene no olvidar los planteamientos más clásicos que ponen en el centro a la persona y la educación en virtudes. Reconocidos expertos nacionales e internacionales nos invitan a ello. La virtud es un hábito operativo bueno y cierto término medio entre dos extremos: esto hace que la ética de las virtudes sea más coherente con el personalismo que otras propuestas, como la ética del deber, de las consecuencias o de los valores. El docente debe ser prudente, justo, fuerte y moderado porque estas son no solo las virtudes que lo hacen mejor persona, sino también las que lo convierten en mejor docente. Además, son las virtudes en las que debe educar al alumnado. Podemos añadir a estas virtudes clásicas las virtudes teologales leídas en clave personalista: el maestro debe creer en, esperar en y amar al alumno que le ha sido confiado.

The teacher is a fundamental element in the entire educational process. In the more classical approaches, it is important not to forget that virtues, both in the person and education, are in the centre; we are invited by renowned national and international experts to do so. Virtue is an excellent operational habit, and it is the middle ground between the two extremes. This makes the ethics of virtues more consistent with personalism than other proposals such as the ethics of duty, consequences, or values. The teacher must be prudent, fair, strong and moderate because these are the virtues that make him not only a better person but also a better teacher. Moreover, these are the virtues in which he must educate students. The theological virtues read in a personalistic key could be added to these classical ones: the teacher must believe, hope in and love the student who has been entrusted to them.
